Overview

Brix & Mortar is one of Yaletown’s most recognizable restaurants. The story goes back to 1999, when founders David Hannay and Patrick Mercer opened the original Brix inside a 1912 heritage-brick building. The space carried a lot of old-Vancouver character, and over the years it developed a loyal following. Later they launched a cocktail lounge next door called George. In 2015, both spaces were combined and reintroduced as Brix & Mortar, a two-level dining house with a glass-covered courtyard patio, whitewashed brick walls, chandeliers, and a mix of modern Canadian food and cocktails that made it a favorite spot for intimate dinners and weddings.

Raxxos has been working behind the scenes at Brix & Mortar for the past decade, managing the entire IT environment so the team can focus on service instead of troubleshooting. A heritage building brings unique challenges. Cabling hidden behind brick. Strange corners where equipment has to fit. Older wiring mixed with newer upgrades. When a restaurant operates inside a structure like that, the tech needs to be stable and predictable or the whole floor feels it. Over the years we’ve supported their POS systems, kept the back-office machines running smoothly, and maintained both staff and customer wifi so everything feels seamless during service.

One of the biggest advantages we bring is around-the-clock monitoring. Their systems are watched 24/7/365, which means problems often get solved before anyone at the restaurant even knows something happened. There have been plenty of mornings where a server or workstation threw an alert overnight and we handled it remotely before they opened for the day. Most issues never require a site visit at all. We only need to be there physically for installs, equipment changes, or the rare emergency that can’t be fixed remotely.

This setup matters because Brix & Mortar isn’t a simple operation. They balance fine dining, cocktails, private events, and weddings, all inside a heritage building that wasn’t designed with modern tech in mind. They need stable systems that stay out of the way on busy nights and keep everything humming for events. Long-term support gives them consistency. We’ve been there through ownership shifts, new POS rollouts, equipment refreshes, and seasonal changes, keeping everything aligned without disruption.

After ten years, the result is a quiet, reliable infrastructure that lets the staff focus on guests and atmosphere. The POS stays solid through rushes. Wifi works the way it should. The back office stays efficient. And on the rare occasion something needs attention, they know exactly who to call. It’s the kind of partnership that makes hospitality feel effortless, even inside one of the oldest buildings in Yaletown.
